After Richard Starr was laid off from his job at American Airlines, he and his wife Theresa were determined to become entrepreneurs with their own business. “We wanted to have a plan and take control of our future,” Theresa said. 

After years and months of preparation of researching different industries and business options, Theresa said she felt like everything came together at the right time and through the right connections for their new trucking business, ProTransport Solutions. “It was miracle after miracle and we’re so grateful,” she said. The Starrs purchased their first truck to get the business up and running, and then worked with BCL of Texas for a Business Growth Fund loan to purchase their second truck. “This second truck is the tipping point that allows our business to be truly successful and profitable,” Theresa said.

Theresa’s advice to other small business owners looking to find their path is a combination of research and networking.
