When Alejandro Dewindt and Jazmin Araque first connected with BCL of Texas, they were not ready for financing yet, but they were ready to grow. Through our small business lending services, BCL works to ensure entrepreneurs have access to capital along with the guidance and tools needed to use it effectively. For Dewindt Design, that journey began with business coaching.
Before coming to the United States, Alejandro and Jazmin had built a successful furniture design business in Venezuela. However, due to ongoing safety concerns affecting both their work and daily life, they made the difficult decision to start over. They rebuilt their lives and business from the ground up in Dallas, TX, working their way back into entrepreneurship. Alejandro, an architect by training, began taking on renovation projects and proved his skills through multiple successful home rehabilitations.
In 2024, they officially launched Dewindt Design and secured their first contract with a real estate company. Like many growing construction businesses, they faced a major challenge with cash flow, as projects required upfront costs while payments came later. They were referred to BCL for a small business loan however, wheen they first applied for a loan with BCL, they were not approved.
Instead of walking away, they stayed committed.
They began working closely with BCL’s Entrepreneurship Coach, Leo Pozzobon, to strengthen their financial foundation. Over the next few months, they built credit, improved cash flow management, separated personal and business finances, and learned how to track profit and loss. “They were the first people who trusted us,” Jazmin shared. Because they did not give up, and with the right support in place, they came back stronger. Just a few months later, they were approved for financing.
Dewindt Design secured $30,000 from BCL to support working capital and purchase equipment. One key investment, a dump trailer, eliminated weekly rental costs and created a new opportunity to earn additional income. More than funding, the experience gave them structure, confidence, and the ability to make informed decisions.
Today, they describe their journey in three words: learning, growth, and resilience. “Building a business together has not been easy, but it has made us stronger,” Jazmin shared. “This was the best decision we could have made for our family.” Looking ahead, they plan to expand their client base, secure new contracts, and continue investing in their business. What began as a fresh start has grown into something much greater. A path toward stability, opportunity, and a legacy of their own.
At BCL, this is what it means to be rooted in legacy. Creating lasting impact by equipping entrepreneurs with the tools, knowledge, and support to build something that endures.
