Shaniqua Ross, a successful accountant, dreamed of breaking free from corporate life and building her own transportation business, Reliable Trusted 4 Transport & Courier Services. Like many aspiring entrepreneurs, she knew the journey would be challenging and that guidance was essential. That’s where BCL of Texas and the power of entrepreneurial coaching came in.

“I was looking for guidance,” Shaniqua says. “At some point, I needed additional funding, and I needed to know how to access loans and other sources of capital.” She discovered BCL through an online search, drawn to BCL’s mission of supporting underrepresented communities. “Of course, we all know, who you are sometimes makes a difference…. but I think this [BCL] is a good way for someone to hold you accountable, and let you know you have somebody really encouraging you. And that really is what matters to me.”

Her BCL counselor became a crucial resource, providing mentorship and information, particularly on securing government contracts. “It’s been great. He gives me the information that I need, reminds me of things I need to do and introduced me to some classes and workshops BCL offers – great for networking.”

Shaniqua’s journey began with her experience on Turo, the car-sharing marketplace. “That’s what initially had me thinking about a transportation business.” While she initially faced concerns about startup capital due to past financial challenges, she found a solution by selling her home and relocating, jumpstarting her business.

As a budding entrepreneur, Shaniqua has recognized the importance of having a supportive network. “It’s definitely scary…you can lose your money invested, so it’s not for everyone, but I do rely a lot on my mindset, my faith.”

In the future, Shaniqua’s hopes are to expand her courier service fleet. BCL will continue to be a vital partner in her entrepreneurial journey, providing her guidance and support every step of the way.
